Inspired by the ancestral knowledge of the Bribri community located in Costa Rica, José Soto creates a sonorous world through the combination of the string quartet, jazz ensemble, and improvisation. It portrays his perspective on some of the concepts of the ancestral knowledge and social values of this community, which, in addition to surviving colonization, have remained resistant for centuries, being an example of social and environmental balance. This album has the support and guidance of the Bribri cultural ambassador, Ali Garcia and the artistry of the extraordinary Francisco Mela, George Garzone, and Milena Casado, among others. As a result of  the extinction of the Bribri culture and language, José seeks to contribute to this community and support the conservation of their culture and language through this project. All proceeds from the album sales of "The Ancestral Call" will be donated to support the work of the Bribri cultural ambassador and scholar Alí García Segura and the Bribri Si̱wa̱' Ujtékölpa Cultural Center (Defenders of Knowledge - Defensores del Saber) of the community of Sös in Talamanca (Limón, Costa Rica).

Driven by the goal of creating socially aware music that betters society, the Costa Rican pianist, composer, and educator José Soto experiments with classical music, Latin American rhythms, free improvisation, and jazz. His music studies took him to the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, New England Conservatory, and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute Master 's program at Berklee College of Music. In Costa Rica, he worked as a teacher at several respected institutions and performed and toured nationally and internationally with the most influential groups of his country. He has performed in many national and international festivals in Latin America, the USA, and Europe, and with internationally recognized artists, such as Luciana Souza, Chico Pinheiro, Francisco Mela, George Garzone, Danilo Perez, Cheo Feliciano, Eddie Daniels, among others. José teaches at Berklee College of Music in the Ear Training Department and Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts. He is also currently preparing for the launch of his debut album, “The Ancestral Call,” which embodies his passion of creating music that carries social awareness through its homage to the Bribri indigenous community of his native Costa Rica.
